Ankle sprains are important to treat whether they are acute or chronic. Even minor ankle sprains (grade I) should not be considered as normal, or a part of every day life.
Up to 25% of people that sprain their ankle have pain in that ankle up to 3 years later.
Ankle sprains are one of the most frequent and prevalent injuries in sports. There are approximately 26,000 ankle sprains every day and many go unreported.
One of the biggest problems with ankle sprains is that they often can lead to more sprains and other low extremity injuries. If the problem becomes severe and/or chronic it may even lead to surgery.
